Sometimes the best shots are the ones you aren’t looking for. While driving through the rural backroads of Cottonwood County with my family, we were searching for evening inspiration. We originally stopped to photograph a unique hilltop barn that caught our eye in the fading sun. After capturing the barn, I turned around and was struck by a sight I hadn’t even noticed: the perfect golden light hitting a calm creek winding through the pasture.

The way the blue sky reflected in the water against the backdrop of harvest-ready soybean fields felt like the quintessential Southwestern Minnesota moment. It was a reminder to always look behind you. The most beautiful light might be right where you least expect it.
