Purple Prairie Clover Art Print

There is a specific kind of intensity to the color of a Purple Prairie Clover that always catches my eye. While walking through a protected conservation area in Southwestern Minnesota, I found this thriving cluster of stems. What makes these flowers so interesting is the way they bloom, starting in a ring at the base of the ‘thimble’ and slowly working their way to the top.

I wanted to capture the ‘unnoticed beauty’ of their fine, fern-like foliage and the way the brilliant purple spikes stand tall against the hazy green of the surrounding grasses. It’s a scene that perfectly captures the peak of a Minnesota summer, where the prairie is alive with color and the busy hum of visiting pollinators.
