Wolf Lake Sky Reflections – Minnesota Prairie Wetland Print
Some photographs are about the land. This one is about the sky.
On a wet summer day at Wolf Lake, the water had filled the entire wetland basin, leaving the surface so still it became a mirror. Passing summer clouds reflect perfectly in the open water, making it difficult to tell where the lake ends and the sky begins. Scattered reeds and marsh grass break through the surface, grounding the reflection just enough to remind you which way is up.
Rolling green hills and a tree line stretch across the horizon, and patches of duckweed add quiet color along the edges. But the sky is what holds your attention – doubled, reflected, and completely still.
This is the same overlook as the Wolf Lake Summer Reflections print, captured the same day from the same spot. Two completely different photographs of the same moment.
About This Location
This photograph was captured at Wolf Lake in the Windom wetland conservation area, rural Cottonwood County in southwestern Minnesota. A federally protected prairie wetland and one of the region’s most important wildlife habitats.
