There is a specific kind of joy in finding a cluster of Yellow Coneflowers swaying in the summer breeze. Often mistaken for their cousin, the Black-eyed Susan, these native prairie wildflowers are known for their distinctively drooping yellow petals and tall, stately cones. I found this particular group tucked into a patch of tallgrass prairie, where they seemed to be reaching for the sun.

What I love about this shot is how the bright yellow ‘skirts’ of the flowers pop against the soft, hazy greens of the surrounding grass. It’s a quintessential scene of a healthy Minnesota prairie in mid-summer—vibrant, hardy, and full of life. It’s a reminder that even the most common wildflowers hold an incredible, delicate beauty when you stop to look closely.
