Sometimes the best photographs are the ones you aren’t looking for. While driving through the rural backroads of Cottonwood County with my family, we were just driving around looking for something worth photographing before the light faded. We originally stopped to photograph a unique hilltop barn that caught our eye in the fading sun. After getting the barn shot, I turned around and was struck by a sight I hadn’t even noticed: the perfect golden light hitting a calm creek winding through the pasture.

The blue sky reflected perfectly in the still water, and the golden light cast long shadows across the green pasture grass. It was a reminder to always look behind you. The most beautiful light might be right where you least expect it.

About This Location

This photograph was captured in rural Cottonwood County in Southwestern Minnesota, a region known for its pastures, farmland, and quiet country roads.
